Most privacy policies are written so you won't read them. This one isn't. Here's exactly what FitMatch knows about you and what happens to it.
If something here doesn't sit right with you, email me at support@fitmatchwaitlist.app. A real person reads it, because there's only one of us.
My name is Tobe. I built FitMatch on my own, and I run it on my own from Maryland. There's no company yet, no team, no investors. Just me. When this policy says "I", that's who it means.
FitMatch is early. Right now it's in beta with a small group of testers.
| What | Why I need it |
|---|---|
| Your email | So you can log in, and so I can reach you if something breaks |
| Your password | To let you in. I never see it, because it's scrambled before it's ever stored |
| Your name | So the person you match with knows who they're meeting |
| Your photos | So they can find you on the gym floor |
| Your gym | To match you with people who actually train where you train |
| Goals, experience, workout days | To find people whose training fits yours, instead of showing you everyone |
| Videos and comments you post | To show them in the app, if you decide to post |
| Messages you send | To get them to the person you matched with |
Only what's needed to make the app work:
I don't sell your data. I don't share it with advertisers. I don't use it to target ads at you.
I'm not saying that as a promise I might quietly break later. If it ever changes, you'll hear it from me before it happens, and I'll ask permission where the law says I have to.
A handful of services keep FitMatch running. They handle data on my instructions and can't use it for their own ends.
| Service | What it handles |
|---|---|
| Supabase | The database, logins, and file storage. Your profile, messages, photos and videos live here. |
| Expo | Getting push notifications to your phone. |
| Apple & Google | Distributing the app, and passing notifications to your phone's operating system. |
| Google Maps | Gym search. When you type a gym name, that text goes to Google to get results back. |
I'd also hand over information if the law properly required it, or if I genuinely believed it was the only way to stop someone being seriously hurt. I'd rather tell you that plainly than bury it.
Your name, photos, gym, goals, experience level and training days. That's what's on your profile, and that's what's visible.
Your email is never shown to anyone. Your messages are visible only to you and the person you matched with. That's enforced at the database level, not just hidden in the app.
In the app: Settings → Delete Account. It removes your profile, your photos and videos, your matches and your messages. There's no undo and no grace period. When it's gone, it's gone.
If you can't get into the app, email me from the address on your account and I'll do it for you.
Depending on where you live, you can ask me to:
Email support@fitmatchwaitlist.app and I'll get back to you within 45 days. I may need to check you're really you first, otherwise anyone could ask for your data.
I'll tell you why, not just refuse. If you think I've got it wrong, reply with the word "appeal" and I'll look at it again and write back within 60 days. If you're still unhappy, you can take it to the Maryland Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division.
Everything travels encrypted. Passwords are hashed and salted by the auth provider, so I couldn't read yours if I wanted to. Only I have access to the production database. Private messages are locked down at the database level so nobody but the two people in a conversation can read them.
No system is perfectly secure, and pretending otherwise would be a lie. If there's ever a breach involving your data, I'll tell you and the authorities as fast as the law requires.
FitMatch is for adults. It's not built for children and I don't knowingly collect anything from anyone under 18. If I find out I have, the account and its data go. If you think a minor is using FitMatch, tell me at support@fitmatchwaitlist.app and I'll deal with it.
The date at the top moves. If a change actually affects your rights or what I do with your data, you'll get a heads-up in the app or by email before it takes effect, not a quiet edit.
This policy and the Terms of Service are the whole agreement between us about FitMatch.
